The North-West Mounted Police were established in 1873 to stop the illicit booze trade in the Fort Whoop-Up area of Alberta.  At that time whiskey traders openly hauled large loads of liquor over the border.  They usually used pack horses and kept away from main roads and trails.

On a soft overcast November day two curious Gray Squirrels pause by an old farmyard.  The abandoned cutter with its bIanket has briefly attracted their attention.  They will soon vanish from this scene in their quest for food.

This scene is only a few miles from Terry's home at Virden, Manitoba.  Each fall the snow geese rest at Oak Lake on their journey south from Canada's north.  The sky and the fields are alive with thousands of these beautiful birds.  The posts in the picture are abandoned remains of a breakwater that was used to protect the shore.
